Sputnik Monroe: Diamond Rings, Caddies & Coffee (15-oz premium mug)
Sputnik Monroe enjoyed his coffee much he liked his people—black. Legend has it African-American fans in Memphis had three framed photos on display in their living rooms: Jesus, Martin Luther King Jr., and Sputz.
A frequent guest on Beale Street in so-called "negro clubs" back at a time in the city's bleak history where music couldn't unite white and blacks, Sputz was often arrested for frequenting these establishments, often wearing colorful clothes that made for some interesting mug shots. This tough-as-nails 15-oz coffee mug features Monroe's ruggedly handsome mug on the morning after a night on the town.
I colorized and fine-tuned this classic old photo, so you can see Monroe's trademark blonde streak, which was emulated by several white teens throughout the Mid-South area as he was viewed as a rebel, the James Dean of wrestling. But Monroe was more than that—he was a champion in and out of the ring, refusing to wrestle unless black fans were allowed to move from the overcrowded upper-deck "crow's nest" down to the mid-level and ringside seats at Ellis Auditorium. Sputz won that battle for his people.
Monroe appears here much like did in living rooms so many years ago—in a fancy frame, a permanent fixture in Memphis-area homes. So this tradition can live on in your home, with this 15-oz black coffee mug that is guaranteed to make your java 28% stronger!
Although Monroe rarely cracked under pressure, this mug is shipped in a sturdy box that costs a little more but is well worth it—I've sold more than 50 mugs and every single shipment has arrived with nary a chip or scratch. Shipping is $5 for your first mug; $3.99 for each additional.
