Tommy Rich & Eddie Gilbert: Memphis Wrestling's The New Fabulous Ones
Stan and Steve, the second incarnation of the Fabulous Ones, set the Memphis territory on fire from the moment their state-of-the-art (for the MTV era of the early '80s) music video (set to "Everybody Wants You") hit TV in October 1982.
By '84, perhaps Keirn and Lane had gotten a little too big for their high hats, handed down to the Fabs from the original Fabulous One, Jackie Fargo. Bigger stages and money lured their the beloved classic Fabs away from Tennessee, replaced by two good ol' boys who grew up in the Volunteer State and appreciated the Fargo legacy: f former NWA World champion Tommy Rich and Eddie Gilbert.
Rich and Gilbert had the impossible task of filling Stan and Steve's formal shoes and lightning bolt tights, even with the blessing of Fargo, who also buried the two Florida natives who deserted the folks in the South.
Despite rarely if ever losing, Rich & Gilbert just weren't accepted by this new Fab formula—drawing obvious comparisons to another failed branding effort of the '80s: New Coke!
Printed on an American Apparel 100% cotton tee that runs true to size, this tee honors Rich and Gilbert, who out forth a fabulous effort in a move by Jerry Jarrett who in hindsight realizes it was much like new Coca-Cola: bad taste.
